Hi 9NPM students :)
this is the place to begin your blogging journey. It is a tool that we will use to interact throughout the year. What I would like you to do is reply to this post. To do so click on the 'comments' link below.
I want to hear a little about you. Please comment in the format of a letter to me and respond to the following questions:
1. What school have you come from?
2. What do you like about school? What do you dislike?
3. If there was any country in the world you could visit - which would it be and why?
4. What part (section) of the newspaper most interests you?
5. If you were an animal - which animal would you be and why?
6. What do you think about Burnside High as a school having been here for almost a week?
You should aim to write at least 300 words. If you cannot access the internet from home there is access in the school library before and after school - or you may decide to write out a response on paper and hand it to me. At the end of your post you must either sign with your name or your student number so that I can work out who has completed the task. You must complete this task by Monday 7th February.
enjoy it!
Hi Mr T,
ReplyDeleteMy previous school was Cobham Intermediate school. Subjects that I enjoy are English, P.E, and now i think that Social Science is a topic that I will enjoy. Science is a topic that I didn't enjoy very much at Cobham but it looks like a whole lot more fun here. If I could go anywhere in the world I would go to Madagascar because there is all sorts of wildlife there that you can't see anywhere else, like lemurs. I have always wanted to go there since I was little. The most interesting section of the newspaper for me would be the sport section. If I was an animal I would want to be a meerkat because they quirky and different to lots of other animals. they also live in warm climates and don't do much apart from dig holes and make tunnels in the sand. I also think that it is really cool how they can close their ears to stop sand getting in them. Burnside seems like a fantastic school and I have enjoyed myself so far. It is really big and I think it will take me a while to get to know the school.I know that I will learn lots here and hope that I can use everything that I learn in my future. I know that this year will be great.
Yours sincerely
Ellen

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteSamuel Gerard here, Ready to answer questions.
1. What school have you come from?
I have come from Templeton Primary school which is a full primary located via the main south road before Rolleston.
2. What do you like about school? What do you dislike?
Ok dislikes first, Homework and getting up early. Likes, seeing friends, learning, seeing new things, and learning cool things (like in science).
3. If there was any country in the world you could visit - which would it be and why?
Hmmm Hard, I would like to go to Egypt to see the pyramids and sphinx but the people apparently aren’t to friendly. I would also like to go to Greece and see the roman artefacts and buildings like the colosseum. I would also like to go to America and see the skyscrapers, Monuments and Buildings like the white house.
Pretty much anything with good architecture I’m in. though overall I would go... can’t decide
4. What part (section) of the newspaper most interests you?
In the morning when i open the paper i usually scan for the comics. If I have time I will usually look at the front page and look for any topics that interest me. Usually found in the lift out such as THE BOX in the press which focuses on gaming, Gadgets and all things technical.
5. If you were an animal - which animal would you be and why?
I think an owl. Don’t know what type. I would like to fly, though I don’t know what I’d do about predators or live food. I like how it’s called smart like a wise old owl. And it’s sort of small. Next in line would be a turtle or a cat.
6. What do you think about Burnside High as a school having been here for almost a week?
BIG and CONFUSING, but i also like all the extra topics and activities. This is why I have chosen to come here over other schools. Also the size is a bit like a challenge, and I like challenges. Can’t wait to explore more. The teachers are nice and so are my class members and I have already made friends. I like the uniform and am having an INTERESTING TIME.
Cheers,
Samuel Gerard

Hi Mr T
ReplyDeleteJust responding to a blog that you told us to reply to and I'll complete with full honesty
I happened to come from Manning Intermediate School and this School seems like a country compared to Manning.
I like the computer labs the most because I think I am a bit of a whiz at computers and can put one together if all the parts are separate. Eg. Computer, mouse, keyboard, speakers, microphone. I generally like everything about school, the teachers, my friends, the lessons and most of all the times when there is no homework.
I would choose Australia because I was born there and I would like to visit old friends and relatives.
The puzzle page of the newspaper (The Press) interests me most because of all the fun I get out of it. They are the only fun page(s) out of the whole paper!!! Sometimes I see something on the front page and decide to read it
If I had to choose an animal that I would choose to be an albatross because they can swim, run and fly really easily and can catch food in an extraordinary way. They are such a snowy white colour and have a long wing span which is good for surfing the winds they have webbed feet to swim more elegantly than ducks. If I could not be a bird then I would be a cat because they seem to have a relaxed life as I have two cats at home named Monty (male) and Serena (Female).
Burnside is so good because of the way classes were straight into it and I like things that are straightforward. It has been a good start to the year and people are really nice and I’ve already got a few friends (fans)
My goal is when someone (at least 1) asks me a question I want to sound like I swallowed the Information. Eg. Swallow the text book, put books on my head you know that sort of stuff like I sound like I did it.
Well see ya round
Elliott Lawrence
Dear MR T
ReplyDelete1. What school have you come from?
I have come from Westburn Primary school.
2. What do you like about school? What do you dislike?
I like how when you start at a new school you can do anything option you like. Unlike primary school, all the subjects are compulsory. The only thing i don't like about the school is thats it is to big...
3. If there was any country in the world you could visit - which would it be and why?
If i could go to any country it would be Korea.
I know Korea is my home country but i was born there and came to New Zealand at the age of 2. I can barely remember Korea, thats why i would pick Korea.
4. What part (section) of the newspaper most interests you?
I would look at the First page of the paper and look for anything important and after i would turn to the movie section and look for any good movies.
5. If you were an animal - which animal would you be and why?
I would be a Giraffe because people will look up to me. :)
6. What do you think about Burnside High as a school having been here for almost a week?
I think it is a really good school. Ive met lots of of good friends and new class mates. I think the sports is going to be a lot of fun just hoping i make the basketball team.
Yours sincerely HanGil Jeong
Dear Mr T,
ReplyDeleteI have come from Cobham Intermediate School.
I enjoy school because of all the people there I can make friends with.
I enjoy Science, Speaking, Art, Technology & Design. I am not so fond of maths and homework although they are good for my education =)
If I could go anywhere it would be France because we learnt french and about french culture at school, and even tried the french delicacy: Escargot: Snails! It would be cool to see and hear France with my own eyes and ears!
If I could be any animal it would be the Rainbow Lorikeet (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rainbow_Lorikeet) beacause they are very handsome and can fly. I think if I was a Rainbow Lorikeet I would be very respected!
I am really enjoying Burnside because of all the nice people here. I also like the new format of a different teacher for each class.
Yours Sincerely
Jack Whittam
Hi Mr. T,
ReplyDeleteWhat school have you come from?
I came from Cobham Intermediate school.
What do you like about school? What do you dislike?
Although I really dislike getting up early in the morning I enjoy most things about school, I like all subjects so far and like meeting my friends. We haven’t really had so much experience on computers in Primary/Intermediate but I do use the computer a ot at home for homework and such and that is also something I enjoy.
If there was any country in the world you could visit - which would it be and why?
Singapore, because I lived there until I was 8 years old and most of my friends are still there. Even though I have been there many times my family rarely visits now because it’s so expensive to get plane tickets from here to Singapore.
What part (section) of the newspaper most interests you?
I don’t really read the newspaper much but generally if I ever do get my hands on a copy I will read the front page and check the weather section.
If you were an animal - which animal would you be and why?
Probably an otter. Mainly because they are so agile both on land and water and I think if I were to become a bird I would be afraid of falling out of the sky.
What do you think about Burnside High as a school having been here for almost a week?
I think it’s amazing. I’ve only been here for a week but it’s so big and they have basically everything. It also reminds me of my old school in Singapore (even though my old school was 3x as big) because of the style of the buildings and the classes are similar. All the teachers are nice and supportive ( well most of them...) and it’s getting easier and easier to get around without getting lost.

1. What school have you come from?
ReplyDeleteMy previous school was Kirkwood intermediate
2. What do you like about school? What do you dislike?
I like this school because it has so many subjects to choose from, so many sports to choose from and so many opportunities to take. The only dislike for me is that this school is so big like a maze that I can’t even find where my locker is. HAHA!!
3. If there was any country in the world you could visit - which would it be and why?
I would go to Japan to see the sights and go on the longest rollercoaster which is 1432 meters it would be so fun.
4. What part (section) of the newspaper most interests you?
Defiantly the sport section to keep up to the latest sport news so when the All Blacks win the world cup I would know all the score and know how the All Blacks win. Go All Blacks!!
5. If you were an animal - which animal would you be and why?
I would be the albatross because it’s the biggest bird that can fly and the name sounds like my name Albert.
6. What do you think about Burnside High as a school having been here for almost a week?
Burnside is so cool I’ve meet a lot of good friend and awesome teachers. I’m glade I chose Burnside and not another high school or else I would miss out on so much.
Yours sincerely Albert Hu

My previous school was Chisnallwood Intermediate.
2. What do you like about school? What do you dislike?
I like that the school has a good music education and is well known for its music and also sport with so many different sports to choose from. I’m not to keen on the schoolwork and homework part though.
3. If there was any country in the world you could visit – which would it be and why?
If I could visit any country in the world it would probably be Australia, even though I have been there many times, because most of my family is there (including my only two cousins) and some of my friends from Chissy that have sadly moved to Australia :(.
4. What part (section) of the newspaper most interests you?
Well I don’t really read the newspaper (my Mum just tells me some interesting things as she reads it) but if I did read it I would probably read the sports section or look for titles that catch my eye on the front page.
5. If you were an animal – what animal would you be and why?
If I were to be an animal, I would be an elephant because they can be trained to play football which is one of my main sports. And they do funky things like squirting water out of their trunk and stuff. The painting part isn’t really me though because I’m useless when it come to art!!
6. What do you think about Burnside High as a school having been here for almost a week?
Umm...big, big and big. I have already got lost a few times, being late to some classes but other than that, the teachers are really nice and subjects I didn’t really enjoy last year have caught my eye. I am really looking forward to sports and music starting :).

Hi Mr T
ReplyDeleteI Came from Cobham intermediate which means that this year is the 5th year that I’ve been in Jack Whittams class because we were in the same class for year 5 and 6 as well. At school I like inquiry which I did at Cobham but at Burnside so far, I’m really enjoying social studies, I don’t remember doing that at Fendalton or Cobham but for the 2 lessons that we have had I’ve really enjoyed it.
If I got to go any where in the world I would go to Abu Dhabi, because of all its amazing malls and big buildings that is has to offer and because my cousins lived there for 6months and all the photos that they brought beck were amazing but I don’t like the men treat the women their and how you have to get a visa to go to another town there because it is kind of like having to have a passport to go to Ashburton which is not right.
If I had to read a part of the News Paper I would read the A section because it has photos and then what the photos are about and it lets you know what is happening all around the world.
If I was an animal I would be a dolphin because then I can swim all day and hang out with my friend and if someone I don’t like comes near I can just head but them out of my way.
I Think Burnside is a very good but big school, and has a lot to offer us through the 5 years that we will be there and I think I have worked out how to get to our class now from the front gate with out having to ask or get out my map!

ReplyDeleteThe last school I was at was Halswell Primary School. I’m so happy that I had fantastic friends for eight years. My favourite thing about school would be making heaps of new friends, all the sports and my favourite subject is definitely P.E. The things I definitely don’t like about school are writing heaps down because it gives me a sore hand and homework. I don’t really have a country I want to visit because I want to go every where in the world. Though the places I would like to visit are Antarctica, Madagascar to see all the wild life and I would like to go to Fiji again because it was awesome. I would read the front page of the news paper, the world section and of course the sport section. If I could be an animal I would like to be a dog because they can run fast, they’re cute and they’re just my favourite animal. Burnside High School is definitely a big school and a lot more confusing than my old one. But I think it’s a really cool school because you can do heaps of cool sports and other activities.
Yours sincerely Sjoerd
Hi Mr T
ReplyDelete1. I come from Chisnallwood Intermediate School in Avondale.
2. In school my favourite subjects are Lunch, Music and chemistry because I like to eat, play music and watch things explode or catch on fire. I dislike the subjects Math, French, PE, Biology, English and Social Studies even though my Social Studies teacher is pretty cool
3. If I could visit any country in the world it would have to be italy because I want to go and see the Vatican city and the leaning tower of Pisa and visit the Colloseum in Rome.
4. The part of the newspaper that interests me the most is usually the job section because I need to make more money so that i can buy a bass guitar and an acoustic/electric guitar or I also like the sports section because even though I hate PE I really like sport.
5. If I was an animal i would want to be a cheetah because they can run very fast which is something i can not do and because they are an awesome colour(I mean who wouldn't want to be Yellow).
6. After having been here for almost a week I think that Burnside is a very cool school with lots of opportunities but it is very big and easy to get lost which makes it alot harder to get to class on time but I think it will be better now that there are bells at the end of each period. I think that Burnside is great and I will probably like it alot more once I start getting used to having a locker and carrying my bag around all the time.
Yours Sincerely
Madi Williams

Hi Mr T,
ReplyDelete1. What school have you come from?
My last school I went to was Cobham Int School.
2.What do you like about school? What do you dislike?
What I like about school is that I really enjoy maths and learning about the history of the world like World War 1 and 2. I don't really like homework and too much of English as well.
3.If there were any country in the world you could visit-which would it be and why?
I would like to visit Africa because I have always liked the people there. I also want to see the wildlife and see what is unique about their county and what they do.
4.What part(section) of the newspaper interests you the most?
I don't read the newspaper at all (only the news on t.v) but it would have to be the sport section to see how the teams are going, winning or not. I would also scim read the headlines as well.
5.If you were an animal-what would you be and why?
I would be a shag because they are a land animal, an air animal and a water animal. You would be able to see amazing views from high above and also see other fantastic views while diving down below the water surface.
6.What do you think of Burnside High as a school having been here for almost a week?
Well it is a very big school, so couldn’t find the health room :/. I think the people are really kind and the teachers are too but also strict which is a good thing anyway. I like the wide variety of opportunities that I could participate in the future. I think the school is very life involved than my previous schools and I think that I will learn heaps here!
Yours sincerely,
Joshua
Dear Mr T
ReplyDelete1.What school have you come from?
I came from Cobham Intermediate.
2.What do you like about school? What do you dis?
I like school because I think it is a great place for meeting new friends and hanging around with them. But I yet do not have any dislikes.
3.If there was any country in the world you could visit-Which would it be and why?
When I was in Korea the place i wanted to visit was NewZealand, because of the green personality of NZ. Now I want to go to USA and visit all the states my self.
4.What part of the newspaper interests you?
I read the first page because I think it contains the most interesting story.
5.If you were an animal what will it be and why?
I would be a pig because I love eating and sleeping the whole time.
6. What do you think about Burnside High as a school having been here for almost a week?
Firstly I think it is a biggest school i have ever been to, i sometimes get lost too.
Yours sincerely,
Sungha Jun
Hi Mr T,
ReplyDeleteThe school I come from is Westburn School. It is a small school compared to Burnside so it is quite a big change, especially 'cause you can get lost really easily at Burnside.
I really enjoy Maths,Social Studies,
Science,Languages and Music! At Westburn, they
didn't have Science so now that there is Science, I'm finding it really interesting and cool! I also think Social Studies will be very interesting this year and hopefully I can learn a whole lot of new stuff that I didn't know before. I enjoy Music and I play two instruments: Piano and Guitar.
There isn't really anything I don't enjoy. Sometimes I don't like P.E because of the stuff we do, but at Burnside, there is such a large variety of different things so I'm sure P.E is going to be very fun.
There are many countries in the world that I would like to go and one of them is Germany. I would like to go there firstly because it would be really cool to visit Berlin, and all the other cool places. Secondly because in year 7 I learnt German. In year 8 I learned Spanish so it would also be really cool to go to Spain and other Spanish speaking countries like Mexico. =)
If I were to read the newspaper, I don't really have a favourite section, but I would look for anything BIG that stands out. I usually judge a book by it's cover, although I know it's not a good thing. I would also read the heading to see if it sounds interesting. I would probably also turn to the comic strips because they are more entertaining than most of the things in newspapers.
If I were an animal, I would want to be a Penguin, mostly because they are my fave animal, but also 'cause I can slide around on my stomach. =D The bad thing is that I would have to eat raw fish. Ewww...
So far Burnside High has been really fun and interesting. I really like that we have lockers because that's not something that I've had before, but then the lockers are for our books, and I don't like having a whole lot of books that you have to carry around with you. I'm sure I'm gonna enjoy my year!!
Yours Sincerely,
Wendy Yang.
Hey Mr. T,
ReplyDeletehere are my answers to your questions:
What school have you come from?
I come from Broadfield primary school which is a small country school between Lincoln and Rolleston.
What do you like about school what do you dislike?
I enjoy PE, maths and generally learning new, interesting things. I also enjoy social studies because I like learning about different cultures and histories. I dislike English as I do not really enjoy writing. I also don’t enjoy having to do lots of homework because I prefer doing other things with my free time.
If there was any country in the world you could visit-which would it be and why?
I would like to visit Fiji because of the great beaches and the warm ocean. Unfortunately this is not possible as they overthrew the government there and destroyed the New Zealand embassy. I do scuba diving so instead of Fiji I would now like to visit the Caribbean because of the fascinating diving sites.
What part (section) of the newspaper most interests you?
I am particularly interested in the World section of the newspaper because I am very interested in international affairs. I enjoy following what is happening around the globe and also find it important to be aware of natural disasters such as floods, earthquakes, fires, etc. that are occurring in foreign countries. I also enjoy reading the Sports section of the paper in order to follow the latest news on athletics and football.
If you were an animal-which animal would you be and why?
If I were to choose an animal that I could be, I would want to be an eagle because they can fly over long distances and are even able to hunt large herbivores such as sheep. They are very majestic and are known as the rulers of the sky.
What do you think about Burnside high as a school having been here for almost a week?
I think it’s a great school. I like the fact that there are so many different activities that I can do and that the school offers so many opportunities to do new things. It is also a lot easier to find new friends because Burnside is so big that most of us Year 9’s don’t yet know each other so we all have a fresh start.
Yours sincerely
Felix Goebel
Hello Mr T
ReplyDeleteThe school I went to last year was Cobham Intermediate School for both yr 7 and yr 8.
The thing I like about school is the lockers, how we change classrooms for each subject art and I also enjoy social studies.I dislike being in big croweds of people, spelling and homework.
If I could go to any contry in the world I would go to France to see the Effle tower and have the crossonts they sell there.
When I read the newspaper I usually look at what movies are on, the world wide and loccal news or what seems to intrest me.
Starfishies has intrest me and that is probably why I'd like to be a 'starfish'.Also they float around in the water stick to rocks and lay in the sun, without getting burnt.
What I think of Burnside High School is that it is a really BIG school with good oppotunities and education dependig on what you want to do. I'm sure that I'll have a good 5 years and get the job I want to have :)
Thanks Mr T
